Extremely early days of course but could 2007 be a vintage year for sport ?

Well it certainly started a lot better than the last year ended. No disrespect to Zara Phillips but her BBC Sports Personality Of  The Year gong was far more down to the dismal and abject failings of UK Sport PLC during 2006.

On New Year’s Day however we saw the light at the end of the tunnel. After a thrilling encounter between Newcastle and Manchester United the evening continued with perhaps one of the most thrilling darts matches of all time at Purfleet where Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor was beaten in a thrilling deciding leg.

And then a few hours later even the England cricket team started to perform and were even spotted at single figure odds to win a test on betterbet.com !

Good quality, exciting sport makes the thrill of a bet even greater so let’s hope the mediocrity has ended and we have a year to celebrate.
