Good to see The Sportsman launch on Wednesday. For too long now the Racing Post have enjoyed a monopoly which usually spells bad news for readers and advertisers alike. Competition brings a better product and should force the Racing Post to pull their socks up and maybe even drop their cover price.
The Sportsman, priced under the Post at £1, aims to cash in on the ever expanding sports betting market and also includes poker, casino, finance and novelty markets – hitherto virgin ground in the daily press. Horse racing’s market share of the betting £1 continues to diminish – so it makes sense to cater for the changing marketplace. Good luck to The Sportsman.
